Common questions
How do I show the cover to people around me?
On iPhone Duo, just close your phone: the cover fills the outside screen. On any other iPhone, tap Hold it up under a book on the Shelf, then turn your phone around. Tap Back to reading (or press and hold the cover) to return.
Can the cover stay on the outside while I read on the inside?
Not yet. iPhone Duo only lets apps use the outside screen while it's open in a few special cases, such as camera apps. Shelf Conscious doesn't use the camera, so the cover goes on the outside when the phone is closed. If Apple allows it in future, the app will use it automatically.
How do I pick a different book?
Open the Shelf tab and swipe through the covers. Tap a book at the side to bring it to the middle, tap the middle one to look closer, or tap Read to open it.
Are the books real?
The covers, titles, authors and chapters are all invented for the app, and any resemblance to real people is coincidental. The four classics (Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes and Alice) are real public-domain books, in full.
How do I set a cover as my wallpaper?
Open Wallpapers, choose a book, pick the screen, orientation, layout and any stickers, then tap Save. Then go to Settings › Wallpaper › Add New Wallpaper › Photos and choose it.
Saving a wallpaper says it isn't allowed.
Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Shelf Conscious and choose Add Photos Only.
How do I make my own book?
Open the Studio tab. Type a title and author, choose a design, colours, a picture and a sticker, and write your own first chapter if you like. Tap Save to add it to your shelf.
Does the app need the internet or an account?
No. It works completely offline and collects no data. See the privacy policy.
